APPROACH TO THERAPY

Healing Space

As your therapist, I can offer a calm presence, listening, empathy, acceptance, and sensitivity coupled with gentle guidance that draws on five decades of my own life lessons and experiences. Working together, you can count on a safe and quiet space to pause, reflect, and engage your strengths, innate wisdom, and deep-rooted resilience in the pursuit of positive change, inner peace, and passionate living.

How We Work

In the beginning, we will build rapport and talk about what brought you in – your concerns, needs, and what you hope to get out of counseling. If you don’t know, that’s alright; we’ll uncover them together. We may also touch on your family, career, and relationship history. As you open up and share your life story with me, my intention is to help you make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behaviors as well as sort through your life events and experiences by bringing a balance of comfort, curiosity, compassion, candor, and challenge to the process.

As we go further into the work of therapy, you will be invited to slow down, turn inward, and dig deep. In doing so, we will contemplate your inner landscape, experiences, and relationships. We will invite wonder and the answers to some of life’s most thought-provoking questions. Importantly, we will also consider practical strategies for relieving symptoms, alleviating stress, and coping with life’s uncertainties.

Using an existential approach to therapy that primarily integrates mindfulness-based cognitive and behavioral techniques taken from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we will connect with the present, seek insights, cultivate acceptance, ponder new perspectives, explore empowering possibilities, clarify what’s important to you, and do what matters. If you are open to it, we can also begin to weave in the wisdom of The Enneagram to gain even an greater understanding of ourselves and others, which can be especially helpful in undoing early-life conditioning that no longer serves us and resolving relationship issues. Over time, you can trust that your relationship with yourself, others, and life will begin to shift in powerful and meaningful ways.

What To Expect

Full contact with life – its suffering, its joy, its mystery – and your transformative journey to greater fulfillment will ask for your willingness, courage, and vulnerability coupled with an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of your true potential at a pace that’s right for you. Your efforts in therapy combined with your hard-won efforts to integrate new insights, perspectives, and practices into your daily life will go a l-o-n-g way. In the end, my hope is that our work together will lead you to enjoy a newfound sense of connection with yourself and others, engender a wholehearted way of being, and lead you to feel deeply grateful for your life despite its inevitable hardships.
